On Saturday, the Boston Terrier and Pug Rescue of Southern Manitoba had their second annual St. Paddy’s Bingo Bowl fundraiser. The poster promised fun for the whole family, prizes and a “social lunch” too.
Of course I was very excited about the whole thing. I’d never been bowling before but I hear it’s pretty easy. For you non-Winnipeggers, a “social” is a fund-raising party that always has a buffet later in the night, usually consisting of bread, cubed cheese, pickles and a variety of cold cuts. Although almost unheard of outside of Manitoba, they are hugely popular here as a fun fundraiser for charity events as well as weddings.
For days I dreamt about kielbasa and cubed cheese and rye bread – oh my! For the good of my fellow Pugs (and other dogs too) I was prepared to do my part and eat all the social food I could muster. Can’t you just smell the kielbasa?
Imagine my dismay on Saturday when I was informed that I had not been invited! What? Really? I thought this was supposed to be fun for the whole family.
Well, I guess the humans had a good time and they assured me they spent lots of money on prize tickets. Meanwhile, I stayed home and babysat my new foster sister – more on her later. Do you think somebody could have thought to bring me home a couple cold cuts? Geez, some days it’s like I do all the work around here.
Oh, and then I find out that Mikey was there all night! He gets to go to everything! Last year, the rescue held a social to raise money to buy him a wheelchair and the restaurant owner let him hang out for the whole thing.
I love ya bud, but I’m still totally jealous you got to hang out and eat the kulbasa while I was on babysitting duties.
As a consolation, the humans did win a couple door prizes that are all for me.
