Furball Feature – Poppy

Poppy came into the BTPRSM rescue because she was being sold at only 6 weeks of age and had a fairly large hernia. The rescue knew she was too small to be separated from her mom. Not that keeping them together was an option. Knowing her age and the size of her hernia, they felt it important to take her in.

It has been now confirmed that Poppy has two hernias to deal with, an umbilical and an inguinal hernia. They will both be repaired when she is spayed. Because of the inguinal hernia, she may have to be spayed a month or two earlier than normal. She will also need her nostrils widened and may need her palate shortened.

The rescue will pay to have all of these surgeries done so they will know that she has the best chance possible at a long and healthy life.

The rescue know how good I am in raising puppies so they sent Poppy to live with me – and my humans.

I have been working hard to pick up where Poppy’s mom left off. I’ve been teaching her how to play politely with other dogs.  If you bite too hard, the game is over and I jump on the couch, out-of-the-way.

Shinobi has also stepped up. I wonder if Shinobi thinks Poppy is just a badly formed cat. He is totally obsessed with Poppy and plays with him like he’s never played with me. They have been practicing ninja tricks together. On more than one occasion, the humans have gone looking for Poppy, only to realize she’s laying on a blanket in plain sight – and totally hidden. Darn ninjas!

Recently, the humans have decided to admit to being foster failures and will be adopting Poppy permanently.
